Investigating the Problems in Academic Writing of QUEST Undergraduates
A Needs Analysis Perspective

This study aimed to investigate the problems in academic writing among undergraduate students of Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science, and Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah, Pakistan, and to explore their needs in terms of academic writing skills. Using a quantitative approach, the data were collected from 15 BE and BS departments across the university. The study comprises a sample of 150 students. The structured questionnaire served as the main tool for gathering data for this investigation, which follows the Hutchinson and Waters' Needs Analysis model. The results of this study indicate that most students faced significant challenges in their academic writing. Moreover, the students' desire to improve their academic writing skills in English indicates the crucial role of effective language teaching and learning in university education.
